SACRED OPAL ACUPUNCTURE

East Asian Holistic Medicine

About Me

Dr. Alex Leiser lives in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He was born and raised in a chanting Buddhist family and still practices daily. He feels his strong healing energy and deep empathy come from his faith, strong family bonds, and past health struggles. He spent his first six years of life with his family in Hachioji, Japan, and received formal education there until 1st grade. Along with these experiences, he has always had a strong interest in East Asian philosophy and the desire to help people.

He and his family moved to the United States when he was six years old and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He completed his first graduate degree from Northern Illinois University as a Master of Science in Operations Management and Information Systems. He worked in the IT industry for several years until he contracted Lyme disease and had a serious health crisis.

By self-advocating and exploring complementary and alternative medicine, he was able to resolve his health issues. After fully recovering, he became determined to help those suffering from health problems find hope and healing. This was when he decided to enroll at the National University of Health Sciences for their acupuncture program. He later decided to pursue an advanced degree in Chinese herbal medicine.

In 2022 he graduated magna cum laude from the National University of Health Sciences with a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine and was chosen as the valedictorian for his class. In 2023 he completed his board certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncturists and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and was declared a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine.  He is now a board-certified and licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. In August 2024, he completed his doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Specialization through the Pacific College of Health & Science.

He has a strong interest in helping people with psychiatric disorders, addiction, insomnia, weight loss, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and chronic illnesses, allergies, digestive problems, anti-aging and degenerative diseases, fertility, and pediatrics.

My Serv ices

Acupuncture is the core modality within the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate blood movement, improve nerve conductivity, restore function, or enhance balance. These specific points lie along pathways called meridians, which are believed to carry the body’s vital energy, or ‘Qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’). When this energy becomes blocked or unbalanced, it can lead to pain or illness. By stimulating these points, we help restore the natural flow of energy, promoting the body to heal itself.

Cupping is a technique that involves placing special cups on the skin to create suction. This therapy helps promote blood flow, release tension, and alleviate muscle soreness. Cupping is often used for musculoskeletal conditions, respiratory issues, and detoxification.

E-stim or electroacupuncture is a technique that involves using small electrical currents through acupuncture needles to enhance the therapeutic effect of the treatment. Instead of manually stimulating the needles, a device is attached or touched to the needles to deliver a mild electrical current. This technique is used to treat a wide range of conditions, including pain, stress, and certain neurological issues.

Moxibustion is a technique that’s often used in conjunction with acupuncture. It involves the burning of mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) in the form of an incense stick or powder near specific acupoints or certain areas of the body to promote healing and improve function. Moxibustion can be performed directly or indirectly, and it is particularly beneficial for conditions involving cold or stagnation.

Gua Sha is a technique that involves scraping the skin using a smooth-edged tool. This therapeutic scraping motion helps release stagnation, improve circulation, and relieve muscle tension. Gua sha is commonly utilized for pain management, immune support, and detoxification. “Gua” translates to “scrape” and “Sha” translates to “petechiae or bruise-like”. Gua Sha when done appropriately, will cause a leftover redness or bruise-like appearance on the skin, but will not hurt.
